The Uber App is Getting a Complete Overhaul

In a recent interview with The VergeUber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi announced an overhaul of the current ridesharing app in an effort to make it “the operating system for your everyday life.”

The most significant change is perhaps the merging of its food delivery app with its ridesharing app, meaning the revamped Uber app will have a completely new look. Instead of the traditional map and search bar, users will immediately be presented with two options on the home screen: to get a ride or order food.

Aesthetics aside, the updated app will feature new safety mechanisms, such as a four-digit PIN verification with the driver or an “on-trip reporting” function where riders can report any unsafe or inappropriate behavior. Uber will also be adding transit information to its app, showing you public transport options for your destination, as well as scooters or bicycles for rent.

Of course, the food delivery side will also be getting new features, the most significant one being a rewards program for users to earn redeemable points when ordering food or hailing a ride with the Uber app. There’ll also be a new allergy filter so those with different dietary requirements can more easily find a meal that suits them.

For now, there’s no official date on when the new Uber app will be available but expect it to arrive in the coming few months. To learn more, check out the video above.
